Kanye West Reportedly Revealed To His Pastor That He Almost Quit Rap Because It’s “The Devil’s Music”

For all of 2019, rapper/producer/designer Kanye West has been on a whirlwind spiritual journey courtesy of his hugely popular Sunday Service sessions, where he features secular and gospel songs to spread his message. However, there was a time when he reportedly wanted to give up the music that made him an icon.

In a new interview, Kanye West’s pastor, Adam Tyson, recently revealed that during one of their previous discussions, Yeezy admitted that he wanted to leave the hip hop game for good because he said it was “the devil’s music.” As reported by @XXL, following Kanye becoming saved, he was reportedly very close to abandoning hip hop until Tyson convinced him otherwise.

Kanye stated that his return to Christianity was due to feeling bound down by chasing fame in the music industry along with the sins that come with it. His sentiments aren’t that surprising, as he has often rapped about the struggles with dealing with the temptations of fame for years.

Speaking more in-depth about their conversation, Tyson, who is the senior pastor at Placerita Bible Church in Newhall, California, said:

“[Kanye] started visiting our church back in mid-May. [Kanye] said, ‘About five weeks ago, I got radically saved.’” He just started telling me a little about his testimony. One time, he told me that he wasn’t going to rap.” I said, ‘Why not?’ He said, ‘That’s the devil’s music.’ I said, ‘Hey, man. Rap is a genre. You can rap for God.’ I think he was already thinking about it a little bit, but I definitely said, ‘Hey, bro. I think you need to use your talents that God’s given you and use that platform for God.’”

Luckily for fans, Kanye took Tyson’s advice to heart. He recently decided to shelve his highly-anticipated album “Yandhi” in favor of the forthcoming Christian hip hop album “Jesus Is King,” which is set to drop on October 25th, complete with a feature IMAX film. He also recently took his Sunday Service took Jamaica where hundreds were in attendance.
