Karmelo Anthony, the 17-year-old suspect in the stabbing death of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf during a track meet in Texas, has been released on bond. Additionally, Anthony’s family has shared updated plans for the more than $430,000 they’ve received in public donations.

Karmelo Anthony, 17-Year-Old Track Meet Stabbing Suspect, Is Released On Bond

According to Fox 4 News Dallas-Fort Worth, on Monday, April 14, Anthony appeared in court around 9 a.m. Furthermore, during the hearing, his parents reportedly testified that the 17-year-old is the oldest of three siblings, had never been arrested prior to the current case, and even worked two jobs.

“Self-defense is a protection that applies to each and every one of us. There are two sides to every story. Karmelo is a 17-year-old kid and an excellent student. He is the captain of his track team and the captain of his football team. This is a tragedy all the way around for both families,” Anthony’s defense attorney, Mike Howard, reportedly told reporters.

Ultimately, Judge Angela Tucker ruled to reduce Anthony’s $1 million bond amount to $250,000. Furthermore, after paying 10% of the bond amount, Anthony was released from Collin County jail. Per the outlet, Anthony has been fitted with an ankle monitor and will be on house arrest until his trial.

Fox 4 News Dallas-Fort Worth notes that his bail conditions restrict him from using social media, contacting Austin Metcalf’s family, and leaving his home without court approval. Lastly, Anthony is required to be supervised by a parent or “designated adult” at all times.

Family Shares Updated Plans For The Over $430K Received In Donations

According to the Daily Mail, during Monday’s court session, Anthony’s father, Andrew, reportedly revealed that the more than $430,000 his family raised online in donations supporting the 17-year-old’s legal defense will now be used for the family’s security and relocation. Per the outlet, a spokesperson for the Anthony family reportedly revealed that they’ve been receiving “graphic and racist threats.” Additionally, their address was reportedly leaked online.

“It would be disingenuous to say there isn’t money… But it is not a bond fund,” Howard reportedly stated, referring to the hefty donations. “This family needs to be able to survive.”

As of Tuesday, April 15, the “Help Karmelo Official Fund” on GiveSendGo has raised over $430,000 of the family’s $500,000 goal.

“The narrative being spread is false, unjust, and harmful. As a family of faith, we are deeply grateful for all of your support during this trying period. Your prayers and assistance mean more to us now more than ever – The Anthony Family,” the description of the fund reads.

More Details On The Track Meet Stabbing Involving Karmelo Anthony & Austin Metcalf

As The Shade Room previously reported, on April 2, Austin Metcalf passed away after allegedly being stabbed by Karmelo Anthony. The 17-year-olds were attending a high school track meet at Kuykendall Stadium. Furthermore, it has been reported that Anthony allegedly stabbed Metcalf after the 17-year-old told him he was in the wrong seat. To note, Anthony has alleged that the incident occurred as a result of self-defense.

Since then, Frisco police have urged the public to refrain from spreading online “misinformation,” per The Shade Room. Despite this, the fatal incident has sparked a plethora of reactions on social media.

To date, a GoFundMe campaign created to support the Metcalf family has raised over $350,000 of its $370,000 goal. Lastly, it remains unclear when Anthony will go to trial. However, the Daily Mail reports that he will not face the death penalty or serve life in prison due to him being a minor at the time of the alleged offense.
