Kelly Rowland Addresses “The Elephant In The Room” For Her—People Seeing Her As “Second Best”

Kelly Rowland, a whole living legend in her own right, released an EP, “The Kelly Rowland Edition” a few days ago. Kelly and her team documented some behind-the-scenes footage of the process from choosing the tracks that would make it on the EP, to her being transparent with the people around her.

When asked what concepts and direction she had in mind for the project, Kelly opened up in a super chill, direct way. “The elephant in the room for me has always been second best,” she said. “That’s actually the first time I’ve said that out loud.”

It’s no secret that people make constant comparisons between Kelly and her former group-mate and best friend, Beyonce. Thankfully for them, their bond and friendship is so strong that it has stood the test of times, and they made it through their rough patches.

If you’re wondering why Kelly was so transparent and what made it so easy for her to say something she’s never said out loud, it’s because of the comfort she felt within the room.

“I think what kind of took me back was how comfortable I felt in the room to be so transparent,” she said. “It’s got to feel right, and everybody feels like that in here.”

Although this was the first time she directly addressed “The Elephant In The Room”, Kelly has definitely let us in within her music.

Back in 2013, Kelly spilled a lot of tea on her track “Dirty Laundry”. The song revealed the abuse Kelly suffered in a relationship, as well as a brief fallout with her bestie, Bey.

While my sister was on stage, killing it like a motherf–ker/I was enraged, feeling it like a motherf–ker/Bird in a cage, you would never know what I was dealing with/Went our separate ways, but I was happy she was killing it/Bittersweet, she was up, I was down/No lie, I feel good for her, but what do I do now?/Forget the records, off the record, I was going through some bullsh-t/Post Survivor, she on fire, who wanna hear my bullsh-t?

Overall, nothing is getting in between these two queens as Kelly said they will always empower and encourage each other.

“I think the people wanted those stories for years, and that’s just so sad on them because it’s not like that,” she said. “It’s so crazy, and I just think it’s so sad that we live in a world where people don’t want to see women get along and encourage and empower each other, and that’s what we do for each other.”
