Kevin Hart Shares His Thoughts On Tony Hinchcliffe’s Controversial George Floyd Joke
Okay, so BOOM! While chopping it up with The Breakfast Club crew, Kevin Hart made it really clear how he feels about the reactions to Tony Hinchcliffe’s George Floyd joke. He said he understands that the joke didn’t sit well with the Black community or culture, but he wasn’t shocked by it either. “It’s Tony Hinchcliffe. I don’t expect less. I don’t expect more.”
From there, he went on to say that roasts come with wild jokes, and in his eyes, Tony still had one of the strongest sets of the night. “I hate to say this, but I’m going to because we’re being honest […] people are talking about that joke, talk about his set.” He continued, “Tony arguably had the best set or one of the best sets.”
Hart also said he wants people to leave him out of the backlash since he didn’t make the joke. Furthermore, he said he thinks it’s really up to people to decide whether they vibe with that kind of content.
“It literally is either you’re a fan of this level of content, or you’re not,” Hart added. “My rebuttal is simplicity […] Remove me from it if I didn’t say it. The job at hand was to produce a successful roast, and that’s what I did. Stop talking as if I said it.”
Kevin Seemingly Doubles Down On Giving Comedians Room To Tell Jokes — Even When It’s Controversial
Shortly after his interview with ‘The Breakfast Club’ hit the internet, Kevin Hart hopped on Instagram to share a few more thoughts on the reactions to his comments and the roast. He dropped a clip from the interview alongside a lengthy caption, telling his followers to stop running with clickbait narratives and pay attention to the truth:
“We are living in crazy times…. Truth no longer matters and it’s pretty damn funny. Nobody does research…. Everyone just assumes and runs with the narrative of click bait. Even when the proof is right in front of your face…. Most will forever choose the lazy road of assumption….”
From there, he doubled down and made it clear that comedians do what they want on their own terms and nobody controls them”
“Even when I clearly say that comics are comics and comics operate on their own…. Nobody controls a comedian …. Comedians do what they want and how they want. It’s that simple… the rules to being a comedian are understood by all comedians.”
