Khloé Kardashian’s Son’s Name Is Now Legally Tatum Thompson

According to legal documents obtained by PEOPLE, the 1-year-old’s name has been legally updated to Tatum Thompson. The outlet reports that a Los Angeles judge approved Kardashian’s request for her son’s official name change on Thursday.

Furthermore, the outlet adds that the child’s name was originally listed as “Baby Kardashian” on his birth certificate. As The Shade Room previously reported, the child was born in July 2022 via a surrogate.

Court documents obtained by Entertainment Tonight have also confirmed the child’s legal name change.

More Reported Details Regarding The Child’s Original Name

According to PEOPLE, California law allows parents to decide whether they’d like their newborn to assume their father’s last name. Or the last name of their mother, or a combination of both. However, whichever option is permanent and requires a court order to be changed.

A report published by Entertainment Tonight in June reveals that Kardashian experienced difficulty when naming her son. At the time, a source explained that when a child’s name is not chosen at birth, the state of California will have the child assume the mother’s last name.

“When a baby is born and a name has not been chosen, something still must be submitted to the state, and the state will make a birth certificate for ‘baby’ with the mother’s last name if the couple is not married…”

Earlier this year, Kardashian explained her difficulty naming the child while a guest on The Jennifer Hudson Show, per The Shade Room.

“He was delivered via surrogate, or the stork, I like to say, and at first, I did not know what I was going to name him. I wanted to meet him and feel him out a little bit, and so at first, he didn’t have a name,” she explained at the time.

Additionally, the 39-year-old alluded that his name would begin with a “T” like her daughter, True.

As The Shade Room previously reported, Kardashian ultimately revealed her son’s name as Tatum on the season 3 premiere of ‘The Kardashians.’ At the time, she added, “Naming a human is really hard.”

Khloé Kardashian Shared Rare Photos Of Tatum While Celebrating His First Birthday In July

Since then, Kardashian has embraced her new role as a boy mom and built a strong bond with her son despite the difficulty she experienced with him being born through surrogacy. In July, she shared a loving birthday message as she celebrated Tatum’s first birthday.

“God knew my heart needed you. I needed your sweet and precious Smile. I needed your angelic spirit. I needed a love only you could give me. I needed my son…”

Additionally, she added that she is “so proud” to be his mother.

“I am so proud to be your mommy. So proud of the love and laughter we have in our house. So proud of your beautiful, gentle, loving, infectious spirit. You light up every single room. There’s no denying that Everyone smiles when they look at you! Especially True 🥹 she is so proud to call you hers…”

At the time, Kardashian also shared rare snapshots of her baby boy.

It’s important to briefly note that Kardashian’s sister, Kylie Jenner, also experienced a similar difficulty with her son after his birth. As The Shade Room previously reported, Jenner and Travis Scott filed documents to legally change their son’s name from Wolf to Aire in March.

According to TMZ, legal documents showed that the parents “regretted” their initial choice for their son’s name.

“[The parents] regret the initial name choice of Wolf Jacques Webster… [since they’ve] had the chance to spend time with their baby, they believe the name Aire Webster is a better fit.”
