Kodak Black learned Friday that the court dropped his drug possession charge from his December arrest. However, the court ordered him to remain behind bars.
According to The Associated Press, the rapper, whose real name is Bill Kapri, had the charge dropped by Judge Barbara Duffy on Friday (February 9).
Kodak Black’s Drug Possession Charge Dismissed
Regarding his arrest on December 7, prosecutors could neither confirm nor deny Kodak Black’s claim that he has an oxycodone prescription.
Cops in Plantation, Florida, approached the 26-year-old after they noticed him sleeping in the driver’s seat of his Bentley.
Officers who initially searched his vehicle leading up to his arrest claimed they had found a substance that resembled cocaine.
They described the encounter, claiming there was “white powder falling from person” and that he allegedly tried to “discard illegal narcotics.” Additionally, his mouth was “full of white powder.”
Kodak refuted that he had any cocaine on him at the time of his arrest and stressed that what police officers found was oxycodone.
He further explained that a doctor prescribed the “drugs” to him.
The Grammy nominee stated that he received potent opioids to treat his injuries from a nightclub shooting in LA in February 2022.
Kodak landed in a bad situation because this particular charge caused the revocation of his bond.
In total, they charged him with cocaine possession, tampering with physical evidence, and improper parking.
With the possession charge out of the way, Kodak’s lawyer, Bradford Cohen, is now hoping they can also get his tampering charge dismissed.
In doing so, Kodak would subsequently be released from prison.
Kodak’s Lawyer Hopes To Have Him Out Of Prison
Following Duffy’s decision, Cohen gave an official statement with his thoughts on seeing the charge dismissed.
“I wasn’t surprised,” he said, per Sun-Sentinel. “Whenever a court follows the rule of law, I’m never surprised. I’m surprised when they don’t follow the rule of law, that’s when I’m surprised.”
But it looks as if Cohen is also weighing his options to have his client’s bond reinstated, as revealed in his latest Instagram post.
Taking to social media shortly after news of Kodak’s charge being dropped, he wrote:
“Motion to Dismiss @kodakblack new case for possession of “cocaine” that was actually oxycodone….GRANTED. “I will leave that right here. We have moved to have his bond reinstated. With my friends for over 20 years, @skywriter.esq and Fred Haddad.”
Kodak has yet to speak out regarding his drug possession charge being dropped.
