Last month former NFL-player Kordell Stewart reportedly sued Andrew Caldwell for a total of $4.5 million dollars for defaming his reputation.
In the lawsuit he cited emotional distress, the loss of earnings and impairment to his reputation, after Caldwell claimed in 2015 that the two had dated in the past.
Caldwell has since recanted his statements and apologized, but according to Stewart the damage was already done.
According to Daily Mail, Stewart has reportedly been awarded a total of $3 million in his lawsuit against Caldwell. In the documents seen by Daily Mail, Stewart was awarded $1.5 million in general damages and another $1.5 million in punitive damages.
When he filed the lawsuit, Stewart claimed that Caldwell’s allegations were made to harm his marriage with his now ex-wife Porsha Williams. He also has claimed that rumors on his sexuality have caused his son to be bullied at school.
The suit, which was filed in a Georgia court, called the allegations both “false and defamatory.”
According to Daily Mail, a spokesperson for Caldwell has denied that he was served with the papers back in February, but said in a statement:
“Mr. Caldwell has not been served any documents referenced in the Daily Mail article dated February 24, 2017. However, should he be properly served by a court with jurisdiction, he welcomes the opportunity to detail, under oath, his sexual encounter with Mr. Stewart. This is not the first time Mr. Stewart has desperately sought media attention by professing his heterosexuality, nor the first time he’s threatened a lawsuit against Mr. Caldwell. ‘Mr. Caldwell will aggressively defend himself in a court proceeding should that be warranted. Until then, he is very excited about his new ventures and will focus on his new website, his designer t-shirt line and launching his YouTube channel.”
