LeBron James has been working to expand his brand past basketball and recently, the NBA star signed on to executive produce a new scripted drama under his production company, SpringHill Entertainment.
According to Variety, James will produce a limited series about entrepreneur, philanthropist and social activist, Madam C.J. Walker, which will star Oscar winning actress Octavia Spencer.
The series will be based on the book “On Her Own Ground,” written by Walker’s great-great granddaughter, A’Lelia Bundles, who will also serve as a consultant on the project.
Sources reportedly revealed that Netflix has shown interest in the project, but the streaming service had no comment on their involvement with the project.
LeBron James expressed his excitement to be working with Octavia Spencer. He said, “I am really proud of this project and that SpringHill will be partnering with Octavia to tell this important story. Every American should all know the story of Madam C.J. Walker. She was an innovator, entrepreneur, social activist, and total game changer whose story has been left out of the history books. I hope this project lives up to her legacy with a story that will educate and inspire.”
