“I might swerve, bend that corner, woah” has had TikTok users in a chokehold for the last week. The trending audio is the beginning snippet of a new song by aspiring rapperLiAngelo Ball. Now it looks like ‘Tweaker’ might’ve been the key to reportedly landing Ball a seven-figure record deal with Def Jam and Universal Music Group.
ESPN reporter Shams Charania shared news of the alleged record deal via X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, January 13. Charania revealed that sources valued the deal at $13 million, with $8 million of that amount guaranteed. Additionally, LiAngelo Ball will get to keep ownership of his music and label, which is Born To Ball Music Group, per Genius. Also, Charania’s report stated that LiAngelo already had a second song to follow ‘Tweaker.’
LiAngelo has made a strong pivot from professional basketball to music in recent months. He’s the middle child of the Ball brothers, eldest Lonzo and youngest LaMelo. While both his brothers are playing in the NBA, he hasn’t been able to stay on an active roster beyond short stints with the Pistons and Hornets and the G League’s Greensboro Swarm.
For context, ‘Tweaker’ dropped on January 3, and within five days, it reportedly charted in the top 10 for streamed songs on Spotify, per ESPN. On that same platform, the song also has over 1.3 million plays.
In The Shade Room’s IG comment section, the roomies were poppin’ off about the reported value of LiAngelo Ball’s deal. The mother of Ball’s son, Miss Nikkii Baby, commented, “Yesss so happy for my love.”
@1jhead said, “Two sons in the NBA, one son getting a music deal, Lavar winning!”
