Lil Nas X Addresses Claims That He’s Looking For Clout Off Nicki Minaj: “I Will No Longer Mention Her”

Roommates, if you’re a fan of Lil Nas X then you’re likely familiar with his history as a Barb, or one of Nick Minaj’s devoted fans, but it appears that fellow Barbz are now accusing him of using their queen for clout. In response to the backlash following mentioning Nicki Minaj in his new song, Lil Nas X took to social media to announce that he will no longer speak about her.

Upon the release of his latest song ‘Sun Goes Down,’ along with the accompanying video, Lil Nas X speaks about his life when he was a teenager, which included a heavy devotion to Nicki Minaj. However, many of Nicki’s fans believe that the timing of Lil Nas’ video is suspect because he decided to drop it just as Nicki has made her return.

In response to the extreme backlash from angry Barbz, Lil Nas X posted the following message on Twitter:

“To the barbz who feel [I’m] using Nicki’s name for attention, the song I released last night was recorded last year. And it’s about my life which 6 of those years were dedicated to Nicki. It’s no fake love. But I understand how it looks so I will no longer mention her.”

In the lyrics to ‘Sun Goes Down,’ he rhymes briefly about his adolescent days of stanning Nicki. “I’d be by the phone / Stanning Nicki mornin’ into dawn / Only place I felt like I belonged / Strangers make you feel so loved, you know?” he says in the song.
