Lil Nas X is facing a heartbreaking loss as he continues navigating a deeply personal chapter in his life. The rapper and singer took to social media with an emotional message on Saturday, letting fans know that someone especially close to him had passed away.
The ‘Old Town Road’ hitmaker shared throwback photos of his mother, Tameka Hill, alongside a brief but emotional tribute. RIP TO THE BADDEST EVER! LOVE U FOREVER, MOMMY, Lil Nas X, 27, wrote. This ones gonna hurt. Further details surrounding Hills death had not been publicly revealed at the time of publication. Us Weekly reports that Hill is survived by Lil Nas X and her multiple other children.
Folks quickly ran to The Shade Rooms Instagram comment section to show Lil Nas X some love, and the comments definitely started rolling in. Some people pointed out that hes been going through a lot lately, while others simply shared their condolences and sent him prayers during this difficult time. Meanwhile, a few folks couldnt help but agree that his mama was definitely a baddie.

While Lil Nas X has rarely spoken publicly about his relationship with his mother, he previously acknowledged that the two had a complicated dynamic. In a 2020 interview, the artist, whose real name is Montero Lamar Hill, said his mother struggled with addiction and that they werent particularly close.
I never really talk about my mom. Shes an addict, so we dont have the closest relationship, he said at the time. He also explained that he had attempted to help his mother but that things didnt quite work out, while emphasizing that there was still love between them. Hills death also comes during a significant period in Lil Nas Xs own life. The Grammy-winning artist has been open with fans about his mental health and sobriety journey following a stint in inpatient treatment in late 2025 for undisclosed issues.
