2004: Remy Ma & Papoose Meet Through The Late DJ Kay Slay
In 2018, Remy and Papoose appeared for an interview with VH1, which was chronicled by the BUILD Series in footage uploaded via YouTube. During their appearance, Papoose explained that they met through DJ Kay Slay. At the time, Kay Slay had informed Pap that Rem was interested in recording a song with him. Additionally, Kay said he believed Remy “like[d]” Pap.
“And then on another occasion, he told me she was coming, and she actually came this particular day, and we just clicked, man — the rest was history from there,” Papoose said. “We started out as friends — we would spend a lot of time talking and just hanging out, and then one thing led to another.”
Furthermore, in the clip, Remy Ma shared her own recollection of events. The rapper explained that she remembers seeing Papoose in the club and thinking he was “cute.” From there, when they did connect, she agreed that they spent a lot of time in the studio or sitting in the car together, talking for “mad hours.”
“So that went on for like a couple of months,” Remy shared. “And then, he just told me one day that he loved me and couldn’t live without me, and then we been together ever since.”
