More On What Trump Said During His Address To Congress

According to NPR, Trump’s speech largely focused on highlighting and championing the demands of his fellow Republicans. His speech touched on anti-trans efforts in school systems, targeting of pro-diversity programs, and efforts to boast America’s patriotism to the world — such as his plans to rename the Panama Canal.

Per the outlet, Trump briefly addressed inflation while touching his ongoing plans to enact tariffs on various foreign countries. However, instead of indepthly laying out his plans for inflation, NPR reports that the president appeared the blame the economy’s current state on former president Joe Biden. He reportedly mentioned Biden 13 times in his speech.

“Joe Biden especially let the price of eggs get out of control,” Trump reportedly said. “The egg prices, out of control. And we’re working hard to get it back down.”

As his speech continued, Trump reportedly praised Elon Musk and DOGE. Per NPR, he asserted that DOGE uncovered “hundreds of billions” in government fraud. However, the outlet reports that the numbers just “don’t appear to add up.” Per the outlet, Trump appeared to make less than true claims about fraudulent social security payments, the revenue garnered from his recent tariffs, and the country’s spending on the war in Ukraine.

Per 6abc Philadelphia, Trump also doubled down on his plans to enact a “gold card” which would allow wealthy immigrants to pay $5 million for U.S. citizenship.

Furthermore, Trump spoke on his continued efforts to enact tax cuts. Swipe below to see an interesting reaction from one congressional member, Rashida Tlaib.

Nonetheless, this reportedly did not stop Trump in his stride of words.

“We will stand up and we will fight, fight, fight for the country our citizens believe in and for the country our people deserve,” he reportedly said toward the end of his speech. “… Get ready for an incredible future because the golden age of America has only just begun. It will be like nothing ever seen before. Thank you. God bless you and God bless America.”

Additionally, according to Fox News, conservatives appeared to be pleased with Trump’s address to congress. Some reportedly called the event a display of “Peak Trump,” while others noted feeling like “they could run through a wall for America.”
