On Tuesday, March 18, Mo’Nique took to Instagram to share a lengthy message alongside a screenshot of Perry speaking at Stone’s memorial. Before beginning her “open letter” to the entertainment executive, she penned a note for Angie Stone’s loved ones.
“We would like to give our heartfelt condolences to Angie Stones family, and friends. Sister Angie we stand on the shoulders of the elders and ancestors like you, so please know that your fight inspired us to write this letter, and that the fight doesn’t end with your passing, as it is only beginning,” she wrote.
Afterward, Mo’Nique began to address Perry.
“I recently watched your heartfelt speech at Angie Stone’s funeral, where you expressed frustration over her mistreatment by the music industry. It struck me, and my husband Sidney, as poignant, but also made us reflect on some unsettling discrepancies in your actions towards me,” she wrote.
At that point, the actor alleged Perry mistreated her by labeling her “hard to work with” in the industry despite never working with her. Additionally, she noted that Perry’s claim about her “blackballed” her in the industry and negatively affected her income. Lastly, Mo alleged that Perry asked her to promote ‘precious’ for free and noted that her overall apology from him is “yet to come.”
To note, while asserting her points, Mo highlighted that Perry spoke against mistreatment, advocated for legends receiving proper pay and treating one another with “love and faith” in his speech at Stone’s memorial. Overall, Mo’s words seemed to imply that Perry has been hypocritical in his actions.

Fast-forward to earlier this month, Perry spoke out at Angie Stone’s memorial service, as previously reported by The Shade Room. During his speech, he touched on “people not paying” Stone and being angry about how she was treated in the industry.

“Women like Angie Stone who’s been in the business all these years, you’re gonna forget about what she did? All of the people that she put on and helped?” he said in part. “… Y’all got to forgive me because I’m angry at the way she was treated… To think that this woman was in the business for all of these years. See, there’s a difference between performing because you want to and performing because you have to. I’m tired of seeing us struggle and go through things and work hard and not reap the benefits of what we were supposed to reap.”
