Tia Mowry Shares Emotional Message After Watching Bodycam Footage Of The Shooting Of Sonya Massey (WATCH)

According to the State Journal-Register, Massey called the police to her home on July 6, around 12:50 a.m., because she believed there was a possible intruder.

When deputies arrived, they reportedly noted that Massey was “calm, perhaps unwell, not aggressive.” Despite this, Officer Sean P. Grayson began yelling at the woman when she removed a pot of boiling water from her stove.

Grayson threatened to shoot Massey in her face. Massey reportedly apologized and put her hands in the air. The officer reportedly fired three shots at the woman, one of which struck her in the face. Officers reported the shots at 1:21 a.m.

According to the State Journal-Register, Massey was taken to HSHS St. John’s Hospital and pronounced dead at 1:47 a.m.

On Tuesday, July 23, bodycam footage of the moments after the fatal shooting of Massey surfaced. In the clip, an officer, presumably Officer Grayson, can be heard referring to Massey as a “b***h” who is “crazy.”

Earlier this week, Massey’s father, James Wilburn, appeared exclusively on ‘CBS Mornings.’ During his interview, Wilburn explained that he and his family were not initially informed that an officer killed their daughter. Instead, they believed that an intruder had killed her.

Additionally, Wilburn explained that he even heard a rumor that his daughter’s death was self-inflicted.

“So I think the cover-up started from right after it happened,” he explained. “Thank God for the bodycam footage…”

According to The Shade Room, Officer Grayson alleged that Massey approached him with the boiling water, which sparked his gunfire. However, the State Journal-Register reports that amid the body cam footage showing otherwise, Grayson has been terminated from the police force. Additionally, the ex-officer has reportedly been indicted on five counts, three including counts of first-degree murder.

According to CNN, Grayson has entered a not-guilty plea to the charges. Additionally, he has been denied pre-trial release.
