Whew, chileeeee! A weight has been lifted off of the world’s shoulders as TikTok has reportedly begun restoring service after temporarily going dark for less than a day. Just hours after cutting off like the rent was due early on Saturday night, TikTok has apparently made its comeback on Sunday, Jan. 19. As TikTok released a statement about its restoration, Donald Trump also shared his plans for the next steps in saving the app.

TikTok Releases Statement About Restoring Service After Temporarily Going Dark
On Sunday, TikTok released a statement on X (formerly Twitter) thanking Donald Trump for his support in getting the app back up and running. The video app also expressed gratitude to the president-elect for allowing small business owners to continue to thrive.
“In agreement with our service providers, TikTok is in the process of restoring service. We thank President Trump for providing the necessary clarity and assurance to our service providers that they will face no penalties providing TikTok to over 170 million Americans and allowing over 7 million small businesses to thrive.
It’s a strong stand for the First Amendment and against arbitrary censorship. We will work with President Trump on a long-term solution that keeps TikTok in the United States,” TikTok’s official statement reads.
Donald Trump Reacts To TikTok’s Announcement & Shares His Plans For The App
Once TikTok came back up and running for U.S. users, Donald Trump issued a statement revealing his plan to sign an executive order to give the app more time.
The president-elect took to Truth Social, outlining his request for companies to prevent the video app from going dark. He also made it clear that any company helping to keep it running won’t face any liability. Furthermore, Donnie said that Americans need to tune in for his inauguration on Monday, along with other events and conversations.
“I would like the United States to have 50% ownership position in a joint venture. By doing this, we save TikTok, keep it in good hands and allow it to stay up. Without U.S. approval, there is no TikTok. With our approval, it is worth hundreds of billions of dollars — maybe trillions,” Trump explained.
Donald Trump continued stating that he believes there should be a joint venture between the current and new owners of the app.
“Therefore, my initial thought is joint venture between the current owners and/or new owners whereby the U.S. gets a 50% ownership in a joint venture set up between the U.S. and whichever purchase we so choose,” Trump added.
Details On Trump’s Previous Initiative To Ban TikTok
Roomies, if y’all recall, Trump was the one who previously called for a ban on TikTok. He raised concerns about the app, especially regarding national security. Donnie believed it posed a threat due to its data collection, which could be shared with the Chinese government. At times, he even threatened to ban it unless its Chinese parent company, ByteDance, sold its U.S. operations. Now, he’s seemingly pulled out a UNO reverse card by pushing to keep the app alive.
