Lyft Offering 60 Million Free & Discounted Rides To COVID-19 Vaccination Sites In Low-Income Areas

#Roommates, as the COVID-19 vaccination becomes more readily available to Americans, popular ride-sharing app Lyft has decided to pitch in to help. It was recently announced that Lyft is now offering free and discounted rides to COVID-19 vaccination sites in low-income areas.

@FOX5Atlanta reports, Lyft is stepping up in a major way to ensure that as many Americans as possible receive the COVID-19 vaccination due to the company’s latest initiative. Lyft has confirmed the offering of 60 million free and/or discounted rides to COVID-19 vaccination sites in uninsured, at-risk and low-income communities.

According to Lyft 5.8 million Americans delay or miss medical care due to lack of transportation in a typical year. Which is why the company has partnered with JPMorgan Chase, Anthem Inc. and United Way to make sure the most marginalized communities aren’t forgotten in the race to obtain the vaccine.

Lyft Co-Founder and President John Zimmer spoke about the new offer:

“Making sure people can get to vaccination sites when they need to is mission critical to beating this virus. This is an opportunity to use our collective strength to mobilize on a massive scale and serve our communities. We cannot let lack of transportation be a factor in determining whether people have access to healthcare.”

Meanwhile, Uber, Lyft’s direct competitor, has made a similar commitment, pledging to provide 10 million free or discounted rides to COVID-19 vaccination sites.
