Roommates, MacKenzie Bezos became the third richest woman in the world when she and #JeffBezos made their divorce official two months back. Mackenzie raked in almost $35 billion, and she’s finally decided what to do with it!
According to TMZ, MacKenzie announced she was signing ‘The Giving Pledge’, agreeing to donate at least $17 billion to charity.
MacKenzie joins big names like Bill and Melinda Gates and Warren Buffet, which puts her ex-husband in an awkward position. Jeff was widely criticized for not signing the pledge.
He’s reportedly the only billionaire among the top 5 richest Americans to NOT sign it.
In her announcement, MacKenzie spoke about her commitment to giving back to those in need in a responsible manner.
“My approach to philanthropy will continue to be thoughtful,” she wrote. “It will take time and effort and care. But I
won’t wait. And I will keep at it until the safe is empty.”
As we previously reported, MacKenzie and Jeff announced their divorce back in January, when Jeff went public about his relationship with TV host Lauren Sanchez.
The divorce may have been unfortunate, but MacKenzie walked away $35 billion richer and with a new status as one of the richest women in the world! She now ranks number three behind Fancoise Bettencourt Meyer, a L’Oreal heiress with a net worth of $54 billion, and Alice Walton of Walmart, with a net worth of $44 billion!
MacKenzie seemed in good spirits after the divorce as well. She released a statement, saying, “Grateful to have finished the process of dissolving my marriage with Jess with support from each other and everyone who reached out to us in kindness, and looking forward to our next phase as co-parents and friends.”
She also added: “Excited about my own plans. Grateful for the past as I look forward to what comes next.”
