From Fake 49ers Player To Prisoner: Meet Mr. Love
The Daejon Love scheme that shook the internet over the summer is headed to our screens, y’all. Viewers will get the opportunity to see how Love allegedly created multiple fake identities, including posing as a San Francisco 49ers player, to scam more than 26 women out of approximately $1.3 million. Love was arrested just ahead of the real NFL season in August. Prosecutors charged him with conspiracy to commit wire fraud and wire fraud. Also charged was 18-year-old Taylor Jamie Chan. According to the prosecutors’ press release, both men were running the scheme until the day of their arrests. Police pulled up on them on August 24, 2026, in Boise, Idaho. They had allegedly traveled in hopes of scamming more victims.
Amid the investigation, officials found that Daejon Love had been scheming women, often under romantic pretenses, since February 2022. The relationship between Daejon Love and Chan remains unclear. Since their arrest, law enforcement reported that at least 35 more victims have come forward, apart from the initial 26 that led to the arrests.

Netflix Announces Daejon Love Documentary
And Netflix is ready to break down all THAT in a new documentary called, ‘Wide Deceiver.’ It does not yet have a release date, per the streamer’s Tudum website. Daejon Love’s story will be part of the series ‘Untold.’ The series features sport documentary films detailing wild stories from the last two decades, like the murder of former NFL icon Steve McNair. ‘Wide Deceiver’ will reportedly feature some of Love’s real-life victims.
“Told firsthand by Love’s victims, Untold: Wide Deceiver will unpack the internet nickname and the far darker story it exposed. After Love was arrested, a flurry of social media content of him pretending to be an NFL player made the rounds across the sports landscape, further heightening his deception,” Netflix’s announcement says.
Propagate and Stardust Frames, in association with North of Now and The Cut, will produce ‘Wide Deceiver.’ At least 10 executive producers are working on the project.
What’s Next For Daejon?
On the same day that Netflix announced the Daejon Love documentary, the DA’s office in Oregon announced that he’s been indicted in the wire fraud case. He appeared in court on Tuesday (Oct. 13) and was arraigned. Love pleaded not guilty and the judge remanded him to custody. His jury trial is scheduled to begin on December 15, 2026.
If convicted, Love faces up a maximum of 20 years in federal prison, three years of supervised release and a fine of at least $250,000. Officials will also require him to forfeit any property he obtained with money he stole in his scheme.
