Marvel Studio Announces Black Panther II Release Date

Roommates, I know we’re still Wakanda Forever, right? Well, hopefully y’all can hang on a little longer because the sequel to Black Panther doesn’t drop until 2022!

But there’s good news to go with that. Today at Disney’s conference D23 Expo, a ton of announcements from Marvel Studios were made including that Ryan Coogler will return to direct Black Panther II!

I mean if we’re going to wait, I know with Coogler at the helm, it will be done right. The official release date for the Black Panther sequel is May 6, 2022. That will be an excellent sendoff for graduation season and the summer.

Coogler’s return was highly anticipated especially after there were some rumors that he wouldn’t return. But last year there were reports that he quietly inked a deal to write and direct the new film.

Coogler was to start writing the script this year and production is projected to kick off in the same year but at the very latest in 2020.

But back when those reports were circulating, Marvel nor Disney have made an official confirmation statement so the tea turned out to be Lipton!

Coogler is a busy man these days. He has also signed on to executive produce the Space Jam sequel which is set to star the one and only LeBron James. He is also developing a drama, Wrong Answer, alongside Black Panther star Michael B. Jordan.

Here’s to hoping most if not all of the cast come back for the sequel. There are also reports that Kendrick Lamar expressed interest in playing a villain in the new film. He did provide the soundtrack for the first one so I’m sure he’ll get some consideration.

Stay here for the latest!
