When bonds break and business gets personal, things can get real messy. Now, Mary J. Blige finds herself at the center of a $5 million legal storm filed by her former friend and stylist, Misa Hylton. What began as a friendship, has now turned into a serious legal matter, with major stakes for all parties involved.
It looks like ‘No More Drama’ isnt just her hit songits Mary J. Bliges personal mantra these days. The Queen of Hip-Hop Soul is ready to shut down what she alleges is a baseless legal attack from two familiar faces: her former stylist, Misa Hylton, and Harlem rapper, Vado.
Back in April, Misa filed a $5 million lawsuit against Mary, alleging breach of contract over the management and signing of Vado. But, according to new court docs obtained by TMZ, Marys legal teamled by powerhouse attorney Lisa Mooresays the suit is nothing more than a messy attempt to “harass” her. Reports call Misa’s claims patently frivolous, and say her only aim is to stir up noise on social media with fabricated accusations.
Mary and Misa go way backlike 30 years backbut this latest filing makes it clear the friendship may be on thin ice. Marys not only asking for the lawsuit to be thrown out ASAP, but shes also gearing up to clap back with counterclaims and push for sanctions. Her legal team argues the claims have zero standing under their existing contracts and even revealed that Vado was the one who brought up dropping Misas management in the first placereceipts in the form of text messages and all.
Allegedly, Mary believes Misa and Vado are just trying to pressure her into a payout. But, sis isnt flinching. Shes standing ten toes downand its looking like ‘Family Affair’ is officially canceled.
As previously reported, back in April, Misa filed a $5 million lawsuit against Blige and her company, Beautiful Life Productions. Misa accused the music icon of “breach of contract, emotional distress, and interference with business relationships.” Additionally, the tension centers around Harlem rapper, Vado, who was signed to Misas agency, M.I.S.A. Management. According to reports, Misa’s team believes thatBlige tried to poach Vado and cut off communication.
Furthermore, per court docs, Vado signed with M.I.S.A. in July 2023. And, gave the agency 20% of his earningsonly to sign a recording deal with Bliges company a few months later in October. Though the two dropped a song together, ‘Still Believe in Love,’ Misa claims Blige later blocked Vados album rollout and performances unless he dropped M.I.S.A. Management. With Vado allegedly unable to make money or repay advances, Misa is seeking an injunction to protect his career.
