Masika Kalysha is leaning into her memories with estranged husband, Jamar Champ amid his sudden passing. Earlier this week, she confirmed to The Shade Room that he died in a Houston car crash. And while she’s shared several posts citing her heartbreak, fans really felt her pain in a video she posted on Wednesday (October 29). In addition to throwback footage of Jamar, she also admitted to feeling anger at the driver who fatally struck him.

What To Know About Jamar Champ’s Death
As previously reported, Masika first acknowledged the car accident on October 28. She didn’t provide any details, only revealing on X that she had gotten the worst news of her life. “Please pray for me and my kids,” she added.
By that time, local Houston outlets had reported a fatal car accident involving a BMW and Tesla Cybertruck. The accident reportedly happened minutes around midnight. Champ was driving the Tesla when the BMW driver, who was traveling the wrong way, slammed into him head-on. The impact caused Jamar Champ’s vehicle to bounce back, hitting an 18-wheeler truck. Meanwhile, the BMW had burst into flames. Both drivers died from their injuries, per KHOU11. The identity of the wrong-way driver is not yet known. KVRR reports that the semi-truck driver remained at the scene after the incident and was not hurt.
According to KHOU11, Harris County—where Jamar died—has had at least 111 wrong-way deaths since 2015. Last year, 233 were reportedly injured in such crashes. Police believe the BMW driver entered the freeway from an exit marked with “Do Not Enter” and “Wrong Way” signs. It’s not yet known whether that driver was impaired.

On Tuesday, Masika also pleaded with the media to slow down on sharing the death news until she got a chance to break the news to her daughters. Jamar Champ was a stepfather to her daughter, Khari. However, the couple also shared a three-year-old daughter named Amari. Kalysha and Champ got married in 2021, but by 2023, they had separated and last year she told fans they were leaning into mediation. The status of their marriage before Jamar passed away is unclear, but a photo she posted showed they had allegedly seen each other two weeks ago.
In her message on Wednesday, Masika Kalysha aimed the first sentence at the BMW driver. Then, she recalled how happy Jamar was when they became pregnant with Amari. The montage of memories she posted reflected multiple moments of him being a father to both her daughters and a loving husband to her.
“I’m so mad at the driver that took your life. I’ve never felt this much anger and pain and confusion all at once. All you wanted was your baby and to be a Godly family man. We found out about @amarihermes on his 35th bday. I was 4.5 months pregnant and had no idea. @1of1champ4x smiled from ear to ear my entire pregnancy. No matter what you go through with a person, you never want this. You always think you have more time,” Masika wrote.
