Roommates, if you’re in your mid-to-late 20s then you know Barney was a household staple wayyyyyyyyy back in the day. Before YouTube and ‘Baby Shark’ came along, if you were a kid, ‘Barney & Friends’ was must-see TV that provided all the childhood bops!
Given that the spirit of remakes is alive and well as of late, it looks like the famous purple dinosaur is next on that list with the help of ‘Get Out’ star Daniel Kaluuya. Now, if you’re like me then seeing the pairing of Barney and Daniel really jumps out at you. We’ve seen him in films like ‘Get Out,’ ‘Black Panther’ and ‘Widows’ (just to name a few), but it seems he’s going to be adding ‘Barney & Friends’ to his resume, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Daniel has signed on to produce the project through his newly formed production studio. He had this to say about the new undertaking: “Barney was a ubiquitous figure in many of our childhoods, then he disappeared into the shadows, left misunderstood. We’re excited to explore this compelling modern-day hero and see if his message of ‘I love you, you love me’ can stand the test of time.”
Mattel is extremely excited to partner with Daniel’s production team and said this about their working relationship: “Working with Daniel Kaluuya will enable us to take a completely new approach to Barney that will surprise audiences and subvert expectations,” added Mattel Films’ Robbie Brenner. “The project will speak to the nostalgia of the brand in a way that will resonate with adults, while entertaining today’s kids.”
If you think Barney is where the buck stops, think again! Apparently other Mattel films are in the works like ‘Barbie’ and ‘Hot Wheels,’ with project that have been rumored to have huge A-list celebrities attached to it as well.
