MC Lyte Thinks Fetty Wap Is A Hip-Hop Feminist!

More often than not, the finger is pointed at male emcees for their disrespectful lyrical content toward women. But sometimes there are those few artists who are relaying a different message than the norm –like Fetty Wap!
He stepped on the scene with a BANG! And is still setting bars. You know you’re doing something right when MC Lyte gives her stamp of approval!
So how about, in a round table discussion recently held at the White House to discuss women in hip-hop, Fetty’s name entered the discussion. MC Lyte said that she felt as though Fetty Wap is a hip-hop feminist. But this wasn’t to throw shade –all things considered.
“He may have a very unique way of presenting his ideas, but he does love women,” she said. “For what he’s up against in this climate with all of the other emcees, he’s taking a stand. He’s being pretty courageous right now with what it is that he presents in his music. Because it’s really not the norm.”
She recalls his debut single, “Trap Queen,” calling it a “hip-hop love song for the ages.” She later quotes the lyrics, “Let me take you out/Would you like it if I kissed you now?/Ain’t tryna force you so let me know if it’s working.”
She says its those lyrics that hint at him having an admiration for women enough to express in a mainstream song.
She mentioned other artists who also have a track record for respecting women via their music like Common, Talib Kweli, Kendrick Lamar and Big Sean.
We can’t lie; its most definitely refreshing to hear a lyric or two suggesting that courtship is still attainable!
What are y’all thoughts?!
