Megan Thee Stallion Reportedly Scores Partial Win In Defamation Case Against Blogger Milagro Gramz
According to NBC 6 South Florida, jurors ruled in Megan Thee Stallion’s favor on Monday, December 1, after completing the deliberation period. Per the outlet, the jurors reportedly found Gramz guilty of intentionally inflicting emotional distress and assisting in the circulation of an AI-generated pornographic video of the rapper. This, all allegedly taking place amid Tory Lanez being found criminally liable for a 2020 shooting. To note, the shooting left Megan with bullet wounds in her feet.
Per the outlet, Gramz was initially ordered to pay Megan $75,000. However, NBC News reports that the judge decreased the amount to $59,000. This, reportedly, because the judge ruled that Gramz “should be treated as a media defendant,” ruling out the $16,000 that the jury initially awarded for defamation. In addition, the judge reportedly asserted that since Gramz is media, she should’ve been served with a “pre-suit notice.”
“Ms. Cooper ultimately prevailed on Ms. Pete’s leading accusation, Defamation, and the jury awarded a nominal amount of damages compared to millions of dollars Ms. Pete demanded from Ms. Cooper throughout the course of the litigation. While we do not agree completely with the jury’s verdict, we respect its verdict, and we thank the jury for giving us their time and attention for more than two weeks,” Gramz legal stated, per NBC 6 South Florida. Furthermore, per USA Today, Nathacha Bien-Aimé, an attorney for Gramz added, “When verdicts like this occur, they can create a chilling effect. Everyday people may become afraid to speak, post, or participate in public conversations out of fear that they will face litigation for their words.”
