Producer Metro Boomin is doing what he can to get his fans prepared for this year’s presidential election, which is less than two months away, by holding a concert this November. It’s called ‘Young Metro Don’t Trust Trump’ and if you’ve heard Future and Drake’s ‘Jumpan’ or ‘Father Stretch My Hands Pt. 1’ by Kanye then you’ll have an ideas of what that means.
Anyway, Metro says that he wanted to do this so that people have a chance to get involved with the voting process and to continue educating people on why it’s important that they vote. “With the election coming, I think it’s time to speak out, and not like speak out by getting extra political with this sh*t, but let people know,” the producer told Complex.
Not only that, but the concert will have a purpose of celebrating the fact that all of its attendees also don’t trust Trump! “So letting y’all know I don’t trust him, you don’t trust him and go ahead and celebrate that. And also, people love coming to concerts and coming together, though at the same time it’s not all about that, but sharing the message and the same view. With it so close to the election, I thought, let’s have this concert and celebrate this and all agree that we can’t have this guy as our President.”
Metro believes that in this day and age, younger generations act on trends and since that’s the case, he hopes that more artists will become trendsetters for causes that actually matter. “It’s about setting trends, and I’m always about setting trends and I know I can be an influence and I’m just now realizing that,” he said. “Let n*ggas know it’s cool, you can still be cool, and you don’t have to be scared to speak up about political issues. The kids don’t really know that.”
All of the proceeds earned from the concert will be used to set up a scholarship fund that will be used to allow St. Louis area high school students to continue their education at Morehouse College each year. He actually went to the Atlanta college but dropped out to pursue a music career. “I feel like that’s important because even though I dropped out of college and was pretty vocal about it, I don’t want people to think I’m on some anti-college shit. Ain’t nothing wrong with college, but I just feel like everyone’s paths are different,” Metro explained. “I still want to go back and get my degree and back then I took it for granted, but I know there are so many kids that would kill for that opportunity. So now, to be in the position I’m in, I want to send one young kid from St. Louis to Morehouse and keep paying for that.”
We commend Metro for taking the initiative on the education tip. Hopefully more artists his age will step up and promote things that will better ourselves and communities!
