Michael Irvin has filed a scathing $100 million lawsuit against the woman who accused him of misconduct, leading to his removal from Super Bowl LVII commentating duties.
The NFL legend said he’s being “railroaded” with false accusations that are ruining his career, according to TMZ Sports.
Irvin Files Scathing $100M Lawsuit Against Hotel For Turning Him Into The Next Victim Of “Cancel Culture”
The lawsuit was filed Thursday afternoon, shortly after Irvin says the Renaissance Hotel (where he had been staying) devised a plan to turn him into the next victim of “cancel culture,” over something he claims never even happened.
“Rash and thoughtless actions can have severe consequences. Marriott [parent company of Renaissance Hotels] apparently did not appreciate these simple truths when, in a rush to judgment, its employees and management inaccurately and inflammatorily accused Mr. Irvin of misconduct to the National Football League,” the lawsuit reads.
The Hall of Famer’s attorney tells TMZ that Michael “looks forward to clearing his name.”
“it is clear Michael is the latest victim of our cancel culture where all it takes is an accusation to ruin a person’s life. Michael looks forward to clearing his name in court and hopes the Court of public opinion will see the truth come out as well.”
Lawsuit Alleges Hotel Manager Reported The Alleged Incident To NFL To “Damage… And Cancel” Him
According to the lawsuit, witnesses actually supported Irvin’s initial claim that he only “casually exchanged pleasantries” with the employee (“Jane Doe”), “shook her hand, and went to his room alone.”
Once the 56-year-old and his team became aware of the accusations, they provided several witness accounts to the hotel in an effort to resolve any misunderstanding. However, they say the hotel refused to listen.
The lawsuit goes on to accuse the hotel manager of reporting the alleged incident to the NFL “with the intention of damaging that relationship and canceling [Irvin],” which ultimately ended up happening.
Levi McCathern, Michael’s attorney, says his client’s name and reputation have not only been damaged, but the accusation has caused him to also lost out on money due to the false allegations. Now, Irvin is seeking in excess of $100,000,000.
Irvin’s Version Of The Events: Some Backstory About The “Misunderstanding” He Stands Accused Of
As The Shade Room reported on Wednesday, Irvin immediately relayed his side of the story during an interview with “Shan & RJ” on 105.3 the Fan in Dallas on Wednesday morning.
“Sunday night … when I came into the hotel, they asked what I did and I said, ‘I just went straight to the room,’” Irvin said. “But I guess I had met somebody in the lobby. Talked to somebody in the lobby for about a minute and then I went to my room. And then after I got up there, they said they had to move me in the hotel. I said, ‘Move me in the hotel for what?’”
He continued: “so they moved my hotel, and I said, ‘What’s going on, guys? What’s happening? Why are are we moving hotels?’”
“They said, ‘Well, last night you walked in, you talked to somebody.’ I said, ‘I didn’t talk to anybody. I went straight to the room.’ And then they showed it on camera that I did talk to somebody. I talked to this girl for about a minute. I don’t know what — they didn’t show it to me. They told it to me. I didn’t see it. But that’s why they moved me, because I guess the girl said I said something to her within that minute that we talked, and so they moved me.”
