Y’all! Michelle Williams may have had fans screaming when she popped up alongside Beyonc and Kelly Rowland during the ‘Cowboy Carter’ tour stop in Las Vegas, but behind that flawless performance was one very real fearfalling flat on her face. And, if you think shes exaggerating, sis says shes been carrying that fear for over 20 years.
In a candid solo episode of her podcast ‘Checking In w/ Record Breakers,’ Michelle opened up about the group’s world-stopping, on-stage reunion. And, despite intense rehearsals and some behind-the-scenes maneuvering, Michelle couldnt fully shake the nerves when she reunited with Beyonc and Kelly Rowland during the ‘Cowboy Carter’ tour stop on July 26. The surprise momentwhich swapped out a ballroom dance segment at Las Vegas Allegiant Stadiumhad the BeyHive in a full chokehold as the trio struck their signature ‘Charlies Angels’ pose before launching into ‘Lose My Breath, ‘Bootylicious,’ and Beyoncs Renaissance track ‘Energy.’
“We turned into little girls again them teenage girls, those younger girls who just wanted to sing, dance, and travel the world. And Beyonc was like, ‘Y’all, let’s have fun. We just gonna go out here and have fun. Whatever happens happens, but we’re gonna have fun,'” Williams recalled.
But, behind that flawless reunion? Michelle was in her head heavy. Michelle spilled that she was lowkey shook leading up to the Destinys Child reunion moment. Why? Because, ever since she took a tumble on live TV during a 2004 performance on BETs ‘106 & Park,’ she’s been fighting flashbacks every time she hits a stage.
“I was trying to stay focused because y’all know I still have trauma from falling on ‘106 & Park,'” she can be heard telling listeners. “I need y’all to be my therapist about that too, because every time I perform with the girls, it’s in my head: ‘Do not fall, do not fall, do not fall.'”
And, she wasnt playing eitherMichelle revealed she even recruited former DC stylist, Ty Hunter, to cut the fringe off her pants to avoid any snags.
“Ty Hunter is like, ‘Child, we got to cut these fringes off because we do not want Michelle to fall,'” she revealed. “I was like, ‘Bro, that was between me and you. You didn’t have to make no announcement.’ But yeah, that’s still in my head. Steps do frighten me now.”
Social media was buzzing after Destinys Childs reunion, with fans flooding the internet to celebrate the iconic trios unforgettable moment. Michelle, often a fan favorite for her soulful vocals and genuine personality, received an outpouring of love and support across her Instagram comments. Fans didnt hold back, rallying around her with encouraging words and reminding everyone why DC3 still holds a special place in their hearts.
