TSR Health: Roommates, just days ago, the FDA approved the very first COVID-19 vaccine for distribution across the country, and the administration was swift to do the same for yet another company. Moderna’s coronavirus vaccine has also been approved for emergency use, CNBC reports.
The authorization of Moderna’s vaccine allows for federal government to distribute about 5.9 million doses of the vaccine to 64 states, territories and major cities across the nation next week. Dr. Anthony Fauci said the vaccine should stat being administered as early as Monday.
“We likely will see shots in the arm by the very early part of next week, I would hope Monday or Tuesday,” he said on the “Today” show on Friday morning.
The United States also plans to send out 2 million additional doses of Pfizer’s vaccine, following the 2.9 million doses that have already been cleared for shipment. As of now, the vaccines require two doses, three to four weeks apart.
“With the availability of two vaccines now for the prevention of COVID-19, the FDA has taken another crucial step in the fight against this global pandemic that is causing vast numbers of hospitalizations and deaths in the United States each day,” FDA Commissioner Dr. Stephen Hahn said in a statement.
As of now, the Moderna vaccine has been authorized for adults over he age of 18 and fatigue, headaches and muscle pains are the most common side effects of it. There are also some rare symptoms such as intractable nausea or vomiting and facial swelling that may occur as a result of the shots, according to the FDA.
As we previously reported, the first doses of he vaccine have already been administered to people across the country and President-elect Joe Biden is even gearing up to take to publicly.
