Brandy and Monica have officially reunited after decades of being apart — and it’s all thanks to Ariana Grande.

Monica Reunites With Brandy For ‘The Boy Is Mine’
Brandy and Monica reunited for Ariana Grande’s new single, ‘The Boy is Mine,’ paying homage to their legendary 1998 collaboration of the same name. Despite the difference from the original, Ariana Grande paid tribute to the R&B legends by including them in her music video and featuring them on the remix.
In an exclusive interview with Entertainment Tonight, Monica shared how Ariana’s collaboration with them has helped play a role in repairing her and Brandy’s relationship.
“The process of the new collaboration did a lot of closing the gaps. When you properly communicate, you can find not only the resolutions and solutions to problems — but sometimes you find that there weren’t ever problems, just consistent miscommunications. It made it a lot easier just to talk.”
The ‘So Gone’ singer also disclosed that she and Brandy have communicated more in the past few weeks than they have in the last twenty years.
“We recognized that the key was to keep other people out of our relationship, both business and personal, and let it be between she and I, and that has changed everything. It’s changed the trajectory of it in its totality. My son was in the hospital the other day and she was who I was speaking to while he was there — that is what Ariana has done that she may not even realize.”
Monica and Brandy’s longstanding feud has been in the spotlight for many years. Despite occasional collaborations like VERZUZ, this new project marks a significant step forward in their relationship.
According to PEOPLE, both artists initially discussed their strained relationship following their VERZUZ battle in 2020. Monica stated that their ongoing tension was not attributable to anyone’s fault.
“It’s over now. And it took a very adult conversation. There’s no shame in saying that. We had to come to that place and to that moment that we had, that allowed us to sit here today. That had to happen first.”
