TikTok teen star and artist Danielle Cohn has been under fire the past couple of days after people on social media felt she tried to pass her cover of Ashanti’s “Foolish” as an original song.
Now granted, the teen’s rendition of the mega hit had a different arrangement than the beloved original but people were still upset with the language she used to promote her single and felt she suggested her “new song” was just that, a new song.

#PressPlay: Chile, the innanets are calling out artist #DanielleCohn for seemingly passing off #Ashanti’s ‘Foolish’ as her own song with the language she used to promote the cover. Fans are upset that she did not reference the song as a “cover” multiple times including on streaming platforms. In addition, people aren’t here for her selling merch on the likeness of the song. Danielle has since responded to critics and says the song is definitely a cover and people are reaching to say that she tried to “steal” Ashanti’s song, adding that she’s a big fan of Ashanti.
This prompted Danielle Cohn to clarify that her song was in fact a cover, but social media critics would not let up and felt the teen was disrespectful for not giving Ashanti her credit in the first place.
But there are people in the music industry who feel Danielle Cohn did nothing wrong and that the backlash she received was uncalled for. Danielle’s mother shared a message from a woman who explained why the teen was not in the wrong.
Ashanti has not publicly spoken on all the drama surrounding her hit and some fans feel only her opinion matters. We’ll keep you posted on this one.
