Mulatto Seemingly Teases New Stage Name In Instagram Video

Roommates, Mulatto has built her lane in the music industry with hits like “Queen of Da Souf” and “On God.” However, controversy has followed suit over the rapper’s stage name. Last December, she revealed she’d been listening to the criticism and that a name change was in the works. On Tuesday night, she posted a video to her Instagram account featuring new bars and a caption hinting towards an official name change.

Although the song didn’t outright say the new name, the caption and song lyrics alluded to the official change. The video begins with the emcee hopping out of a black truck, while the song plays over its speakers. Mulatto is dressed in all black with black-and-grey sneakers and bright pink hair. She starts rapping along to her song.

“The blogs wanna know who I’m f*****g, rap b*****s ain’t talking bout nothing. F**k it I changed my name but I bet they still gon find something. Y’all ain’t bully me out my shit. Drop hits, I still ain’t miss. New money, new crib, new whip, new name I’m still that b***h,” Mulatto said in the clip.

The caption to the 20-second clip reiterates Mulatto’s lyrics in the videos.

“New 💰, New 🏡, New 🏎, New Name I’m still that B***H! Y’all ready???” she wrote.

It’s unclear if the video is the official name announcement, a sneak preview of a new track or a combination of both. Fans in the comment section speculated that the new name is “Big Latto” given the rapper’s social media bios on Instagram and Twitter. Additionally, the budding star has consistently used that shortened version of her stage name throughout her career.

To backtrack, the controversy surrounding the name stems from its racist history. By textbook definition, the word mulatto is used to describe a mixed-race person. However, the word was previously used to describe offspring that came about after rape during slavery times.

Mulatto previously gave an interview with Revolt’s “Big Facts” show, where she shared it would be “careless” of her not to listen to the growing concerns over her name. She did say, however, that the change requires time.

“For a name change at this point in my career, that’s a big step,” she shared. “S**t! Where at the same time, I gotta listen to them, they gotta listen to me, like, ‘Damn, that is a big step.’ You got labels involved, investors, management, PR. There’s so much s**t that goes into it. It’s even a big step for me to consider doing.”

Roommates, what do you think Mulatto changed her stage name to?
