#Roommates, his time in office may officially be a thing of the past, but Donald Trump still has very serious legal issues ahead of him–especially his forthcoming impeachment trial. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi just confirmed that the impeachment article against Trump will be delivered to the Senate within the next few days, making it the latest step in his second impeachment.
@ABCNews reports, despite a brand new administration finally taking over the White House, Donald Trump’s impeachment trial is still moving forward…and at a pretty fast rate. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi recently confirmed that the House impeachment managers are set to deliver the impeachment article against Trump on January 25th. The delivery of the article would trigger a start to formal impeachment proceedings the following day, January 26th.
Pelosi also firmly pushed back against GOP claims that the timeline of the impeachment trial doesn’t allow Trump with enough time to prepare his defense. In response, she stated that he “will have had the same amount of time to prepare for trial as our Managers.” She continued, adding “exactly one week after the attack on the Capitol to undermine the integrity of our democracy, a bipartisan vote of the House of Representatives passed the article of impeachment, which is our solemn duty to deliver to the Senate.”
Meanwhile, new Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer added his thoughts on the process and what Trump and his legal team should expect in the coming days.
“Make no mistake: a trial will be held in the United States Senate, and there will be a vote on whether to convict,” he said while on the floor of Congress.
You’ll recall that Donald Trump is the first president in history to be impeached twice, after he was recently impeached for his role in the U.S. Capitol riots by Trump supporters that left six people dead.
