Nelly Explains His Decision To Perform At Donald Trump’s Inauguration

Previously, The Shade Room reported that Nelly was set to perform at Donald Trump’s inaugural ball on Monday, Jan. 20. The news first broke when CBS reporter Taurean Smalls shared it on X (formerly Twitter) on Jan. 17.

Now, the St. Louis emcee is explaining his decision to be part of the celebration for Donnie. Nelly joined rapper Willie D for a conversation on YouTube, where he addressed his choice sparking plenty of reactions across social media.

In the video interview, Nelly made it clear that he’s not performing at Trump’s inaugural ball for the cash.

“I’m not doing this for money. I’m doing this cause it’s an [honor]. I respect the office. It don’t matter who is in office. The same way that our men and women, our brothers and sisters who protect this country have to go to war and put their life on the line for whoever in office. So if they can put they life on the line for whoever in office, I can damn sure perform for whoever in office,” Nelly explained.

Willie D also pointed out all the backlash Nelly’s received since it was announced he’s part of the inaugural ball lineup. He even asked Nelly how he would respond to people calling him out for supporting a white supremacist. But the rapper straight-up said he needs proof that Donald Trump is a white supremacist.“I would ask them to show me where he’s a white supremacist,” Nelly added.
