Laura Caron, a former fifth-grade teacher at Middle Township Elementary School in New Jersey, has been indicted months after a 19-year-old spoke out defending her for having a baby with him at 13.

More Details On Laura Caron Allegedly Having A Baby With A 13-Year-Old Student
According to Fox News, Caron reportedly started abusing the child in 2016, when he was 11 years old and residing in her home. The abuse reportedly continued until he was 15 in 2020. To note, per the New York Post, the victim and their sibling had been students of Caron’s. Their relationship started with weekly sleepovers and escalated to him leaving her home permanently between 2016 and 2020.
Furthermore, Fox News reports that police began their investigation into Caron last year. At the time, they reportedly received a tip, informing them that the victim’s father had made a post on Facebook. Furthermore, the post was reportedly about how Caron’s child resembled his son.
Afterward, the victim reportedly confirmed to police that he had been in a sexual relationship with Caron. Additionally, the victim stated that he was the father of her child. It was noted that the child was born when the victim was 13 years old and Caron was 27. Per the New York Post, Caron threw a baby shower for the child at the time.
“She had a baby shower. She was happy about it,” Darlene Dowless, a friend of Caron’s, told the outlet. “But she didn’t identify who the father was, at least not to me. She just said that he wouldn’t be involved and was out of the picture.”
Per Fox News, Caron was arrested in January.
The Now-19-Year-Old Victim Spoke Out, Defending The New Jersey Teacher In February
In February, the Daily Mail published an exclusive interview with the now-19-year-old victim. At the time, the victim, who remained anonymous, insisted that he loved Caron, “wasn’t groomed” by her, and wanted their family to be together.
“They need to drop all charges. I wasn’t groomed or raped or manipulated by her. She never initiated anything,” he said. “I started everything. If it was up to me she wouldn’t have been in jail. It’s been six or seven years. I’m 19 about to be 20.”
In addition, the victim spoke on the court order not allowing him and Caron to speak.
“I can’t talk to them. I wish I could but I can’t and it sucks,” he said at the time. “… All of this started with a Facebook post from my father. I didn’t want her violated like that… This stuff is so deep. Like the world has no idea what she has done for my family. I love her with all my heart. She was there for me and my family.”
More Details On Laura Caron’s Charges & Indictment
According to Fox News, Caron, who was released on bond in January, was indicted by a grand jury last week. Per the outlet, she is now charged with aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault, and endangering the welfare of a child. She is reportedly facing “penalties of five to 10 years” in prison.
Per PEOPLE, Caron is scheduled to appear in court on July 16. Furthermore, she has not yet entered a plea on her charges.
