Your maybe thinking the same thing that I’m thinking, ‘what in the world is going on with America?’ Well it’s shocking to many, but in reality denying a pregnant woman a drink at a bar, doesn’t effect the bartender’s health risk, only the mother to be!
According to USA Today, a new law has passed in New York City that allows bartenders to serve pregnant women and women who appear to be pregnant a drink. No discrimination allowed in bars period!
This also takes into consideration that women can’t be denied entry into a club by security, are allowed to be served raw fish at restaurants, despite the possible health risks.
New York City is setting the record straight that pregnant women have just as much of a privilege to have a good time as much as women who aren’t expecting! “Using safety as a pretext for discrimination or as a way to reinforce traditional gender norms or stereotypes is unlawful,” stated Friday by the Commission on Human Rights.
Luckily, the bars in the city must still vividly post signs that warn pregnant women that they are at risk for drinking and the dangers behind it all.
Although you may have heard your doctor say that while bearing a child it is okay to have one glass of wine a day and this maybe a safer way to admit this is okay for bartenders too who maybe skeptical about the topic.
