President Obama is doing his part to uplift the next generation of leaders and make sure the Democratic Party knows how to run for office in the age of Trump.
According to CNN, Obama has met with at least 10 2020 presidential hopefuls to offer advice on running in the Trump era, and how to position the Democratic party moving forward.
A few of the presidential contenders he’s met with include Cory Booker, Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, Joe Biden, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, former New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu, and former Attorney General Eric Holder among others.
CNN’s source said Obama spent his time teaching the potential candidates “how to respond to the President, positioning and broader challenges with the party.”
“He has been very clear about the need for the Democratic Party to rebuild and part of that is lifting up the next generation of leaders,” the Democratic source said. “So if people want advice or a gut check or just to come in and look at the challenges we face, he is happy to do that.”
