TSR, y’all know Uncle Denzel Washington does not play when it comes to personal space — and he made that crystal clear at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival. Denzel Stands His Ground
It went left real quick at the Cannes premiere of Spike Lee’s new film ‘Highest 2 Lowest’ when Denzel Washington had to check a photographer who clearly didn’t know who he was dealing with.
Everything was cool just moments before — Denzel was vibing on the carpet with A$AP Rocky and Spike Lee, smiling for cameras. According to reports, the energy shifted when a photographer allegedly grabbed Denzel’s arm mid-strut and asked, “Can I take a picture?” That’s when the Oscar winner turned serious. Video shows Denzel stepping up to the man and appearing to say, “Never put your hands on me again.”

When the photographer got handsy again, Denzel doubled down, reportedly saying, “Stop it,” multiple times and making it crystal clear he wasn’t about to let the disrespect slide. A lip reader claims Denzel said,
“Let me tell you — stop, stop — never put your hands on me again. I’m talking to you, stop, all right.”
And the wildest part? The photographer allegedly brushed it off with a smug “Not allowed” — and even cracked a grin. One thing about Denzel — he’s going to protect his peace and his personal space. Though he was noticeably absent from the film’s press conference on Tuesday, it was confirmed that he returned to NYC for professional obligations.

Is This A Trend At Cannes?
Back in 2024, Kelly Rowland had her own viral Cannes moment when she had to check a staffer who appeared to push her along the carpet. Kelly, ever the classy queen, turned around and firmly addressed the behavior. It all started off innocently when a female staffer accidentally stepped on Kelly Rowland’s dress. At first, Kelly brushed it off with a calm “Don’t worry.” But things took a turn when the staffer’s tone seemingly shifted — and Kelly wasn’t having it. Cameras caught the singer firmly telling her, “Don’t talk to me like that,” making it clear she wasn’t about to let the disrespect slide.
That same year, actress Massiel Taveras made headlines after a tense moment with Cannes staff on the red carpet. While trying to showcase her dramatic gown, a staff member appeared to rush her along. The female security guard tried to rush her along mid-pose, blocking her with an arm across her chest and head. Massiel wasn’t feeling it and appeared to check the guard by placing a hand over her face instead.
