UPDATE: Former Maryland Mayor Indicted On 80 Counts Of Child Pornography

Patrick Wojahn—the now-former mayor of College Park, Maryland—has officially been indicted on a whopping 80 counts related to child pornography (CP).

The Ex-Mayor Was Initially Facing 56 Counts Instead Of 80: ‘The Charges Contained In The Indictment Are Serious’

The update comes through a report from WJLA, and it arrives on the heels of the 47-year-old initially being hit with 56 CP-related charges, as The Shade Room previously reported.

Of the 80 total counts that Wojahn now faces, half are for possession while the remaining 40 are over possession with intent to distribute.

The outlet notes that, per court documents, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children pin-pointed the CP as being shared via Kik, an app used for instant messaging, sometime between January 9-11.

In response to the situation, Aisha Braveboy—the State’s Attorney for Prince George’s County—called it “an unprecedented case” for the area, which is just outside of Washington, D.C.

“This is an unprecedented case in our county in which a former elected official has been accused of a crime of this nature. We elect leaders with the expectation that they will serve, protect, and advocate for our children, families, and communities and not harm them in anyway.”

She added, “The charges contained in the indictment are serious, and we will continue to work with law enforcement to investigate and follow any new leads that may be uncovered.”

Patrick Wojahn Resigned Just Ahead Of His Arrest, Was Thanked For His ‘Years Of Dedicated Service’

While on the subject of Patrick Wojahn’s ongoing legal situation, we should add that he resigned less than 24 hours ahead of being taken into custody on March 2.

In a statement on the matter, it was noted, “The City of College Park thanks Mayor Wojahn for his many years of dedicated service.”

However, city officials also noted that they were “shocked and disturbed by the news” and called the ordeal “a total surprise.” Additionally, it was acknowledged that “this news is distressing and difficult for [the] community.”
