Phylicia Rashad Speaks Out Amid Backlash For Supporting Bill Cosby’s Release From Prison

On Wednesday, Phylicia Rashad labeled Bill Cosby’s release as “a miscarriage of justice” that was “corrected.” People were not here for it.

As previously reported, Bill Cosby’s rape conviction was overturned due to a technicality on the state prosecutor’s behalf. Among the mixed reactions from many people, Rashad tweeted, “FINALLY!!!! A terrible wrong is being righted–a miscarriage of justice is corrected.” But people on social media were not here for her response at all.

Amid the backlash, Phylicia released a statement and said, “I fully support survivors of sexual assault coming forward. My post was in no way intended to be insensitive to their truth.” Rashad also added, “Personally, I know from friends and family that such abuse has lifelong residual effects. My heartfelt wish is for healing.”

Once the backlash started, Rashad disabled the replies on her tweet. A few people stated, “Cut them f***ing comments on since you got so much to f***ing say @phyliciarashad.” Another person stated, “The fact that @phyliciarashad turned off comments on that tweet tells us she knows she’s wrong.” Someone else added, “Comments disabled, profile in courage I tell you, wonder what the women he raped have to say?”

As previously reported, “The court issued an opinion to vacate Cosby’s conviction after the legendary comedian appealed to the court in December when his lawyers argued that his entire life was put on trial, which caused him to suffer “unquantifiable prejudice,” Fox 43 reports.”

As you know, Cosby has been in SCI Phoenix, a state prison outside of Philadelphia, after a jury convicted him in 2018 of three aggravated indecent assault counts. Additionally, the court deemed the 83-year-old a “sexually violent predator” for posing an “imminent safety risk to women.”
