#Roommates, let’s keep the people of #Dallas in our thoughts and prayers this evening. A tragic crane accident has claimed at least one life and has left six others injured after the crane collapsed onto an apartment building and parking garage.
The accident is believed to have been caused by strong winds as severe storms were moving through the area at the time, but the actual cause of the accident has not been officially released and will likely be under investigation.
Jason Evans, a spokesman with Dallas Fire-Rescue Department, said five of the victims were in serious and critical condition, @nbcnews reports. A sixth person was hospitalized but has since been released, he said.
The crane tore through four floors of the apartment building in Dallas’ downtown city center district, according to Dallas Police Department spokesman DeMarquis Black said. It wasn’t clear how many floors in the parking garage collapsed.
Evans said the crane was located next door to the building that was crushed, but he said he wasn’t sure if the equipment was being used Sunday.
Displaced residents from the building were gathering at a cultural center across the street from the apartment complex. It wasn’t immediately clear if anyone was missing, Evans added, though authorities were conducting a search using dogs.
Pictures from the scene appeared to show cars teetering on the edge of collapsed floors in the garage.

A resident at the apartment building, 34-year-old Ryan Loewe, said the collapse sounded like a “large bang.”
“Most insane thing I’ve ever experienced,” he wrote on Twitter. “Massive crane blew over into my complex. Missed my unit by 2 doors.”
