Reports Are Now Alleging Freddie Gray Caused His Own Spinal Injuries

In the midst of the riots and chaos, rumors surface that Freddie Gray tried to injure himself during his time in the back of the police van; and may be the cause of his severed spinal injuries.

It’s been three weeks since Freddie Gray had his run-in with Baltimore police and this is the first the public’s heard of what [allegedly] caused his spinal injuries.

According to The Washington Post, Gray was in the transport van with a  38-year-old prisoner who says he “believes Gray was intentionally trying to injure himself,” he claims Gray was “banging against the walls” of the van.

If you’ve been following the stories, you know that police reports state that Gray was found unconscious in the van, upon arrival at the police station. It was further claimed by the police department that it is unknown if his injuries came from the arrest or 30-minute transport to the station.

It was admitted by Police Commissioner, Anthony Batts, that the arresting officers failed to follow proper arrest protocol in their pursuit to arrest and then again when they didn’t properly secure him in the van with a safety belt or harness AND THEN ignored all requests for medical assistance.

Jason Downs, an attorney representing the Gray family says this is the first time the family has learned of Feddie Gray’s alleged self-imposed injuries.

“We disagree with any implication that Freddie Gray severed his own spinal cord…we question the accuracy of the police reports we’ve seen thus far, including the police report that says Mr. Gray was arrested without force or incident.”

Could this be a cover up to sway the public’s opinion of what really happened?

We’ll keep you updated as more details surface.
