Robert De Niro And Grace Hightower Are Divorcing After 20 Years Of Marriage

Say it ain’t so! After 20 years of marriage, #RobertDeNiro and #GraceHightower are calling it quits.

A source close to the family told @People the two have separated and are living apart.

De Niro and Hightower have two children together: 20-year-old son Elliott and 6-year-old daughter Helen Grace. The pair married in 1997 after dating for a decade.

“Sometimes things don’t work out the way you hope or want them to,” the source said.

This is not the first time the two have separated either. De Niro filed for divorce in 1999 and engaged into a custody dispute over their son but the couple eventually worked things out and the divorce was never finalized.

Back in November 2004, the two renewed their vows in front of a star-studded crowd, which included good friends Martin Scorsese, Meryl Streep and Ben Stiller.

A rep for De Niro has not publicly commented on the separation.

The couple first met back in 1987 at Mr. Chow in London, where she worked as a hostess at the time. Hightower, who is known for her philanthropy and socialite status, admitted in an interview with Katie Couric that she had no idea who he was at the time they met, but her co-workers filled her in later in the night after he continued to flirt with her.

The two were last seen together on the red carpet in June when they attended the 72nd Annual Tony Awards in New York City.

De Niro is known for keeping his private life out of the spotlight, but he’s known to be a family man.

He also has four other children: 47-year-old daughter Drena and 42-year-old son Raphael with former wife Diahnne Abbott, as well as 23-year-old twin sons Julian and Aaron, with ex-girlfriend Toukie Smith.
