Russell Westbrook and James Harden are taking their talents off the court and onto the pages of a fashion magazine—‘GQ’ magazine, that is. In the latest issue, the NBA stars and best friends open up about their love of the game, their friendship and of course, their sense of style.
Russell Westbrook and James Harden have one of the most enduring friendships in all of sports, largely because they have been friends since they were kids and well before they were famous. So, it makes since that the two would share the cover of the latest issue of ‘GQ’ magazine—and they look pretty good doing it.
To let you know just how serious they take their fashion, both men revealed how much money they spend on clothing each year…and the answer is jaw-dropping. Russell commented, “I would say…$500K. Half a mil. Minimum.” While James, clearly knowing his friend’s extravagance, replied “I bet Russ spends $300K to $350K.”
When Russell was later asked about the hardest part of breaking into the fashion industry as an athlete, he said:
“For me it was being comfortable sitting at a dinner without assuming that these designers or editors know who you are or know what you do. You know what I’m saying? I’m thinking that’s the biggest thing. And as athletes, once you bridge that gap and these editors keep seeing you over and over again, then they’re like, “Okay, now I know.…”
Meanwhile, James answered the same question this way:
“Not even just to be cocky or anything, but we’re not regular athletes. Usually if we’re sitting at a table, we’re like “the ones” that everyone talks about. But when we went to fashion dinners at first? And we’re not “the ones”? [laughs] It humbles you.”
