Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell Doubles Down On Rejection Of $2,000 Stimulus Bill—Says There Is “No Realistic Path To Quickly Pass The Senate”

#Roommates, the current tug-of-war regarding the proposed $2,000 stimulus bill continues, as Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has doubled down on his previous rejection. After seemingly shutting the $2K stimulus bill down, Mitch McConnell went a step further and declared that there is no “realistic” way he believes it could be approved.

@CNN reports, earlier this week, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell easily became public enemy number one to many Americans after he shut down the proposed $2,000 stimulus bill—and he just made it very clear that it’s not happening. He again rejected the bill, likely closing the door on any pathway to its approval before the end of the Congress in the next few days. McConnell took to the Senate floor to attack the House-passed $2,000 stimulus bill, specifically because of his issue of higher-income individuals and couples that would be eligible to receive some of the payments due to how the income phase outs are structured.

He stated that the House bill had  “no realistic path to quickly pass the Senate,” and said the Democratic-led effort ran astray of what Donald Trump, who has repeatedly pressured Republicans to pass the expanded stimulus checks, actually requested. “The Senate is not going to be bullied into rushing out more borrowed money into the hands of Democrats’ rich friends who don’t need the help,” McConnell said.

Mitch McConnell also made it clear that nothing would move forward in the chamber that doesn’t include Trump’s other two priorities: a full repeal of online liability protections and an investigation into alleged voter fraud. “The Senate is not going to split apart the three issues that President Trump linked together,” he said on the Senate floor.

As of right now, there are no votes scheduled on McConnell’s bill, or the House-passed legislation, and GOP aides say it’s likely the 116th Congress comes to an end without any action on increasing direct payments.
