After causing a social media frenzy when Jim Jones recently called himself a better rapper than Nas, the conversation continued over on Shannon Sharpe and Chad ‘Ochocinco’ Johnsons ‘Nightcap’ podcast. Shannon wasnt here for Jim’s claims AT ALL! Chile the two even began roasting each other, with Shannon saying Jim wasn’t big enough to be on his main podcast, ‘Club Shay Shay.’ Heres what went down
On Saturday, June 21, Jim Jones appeared on Shannon Sharpe’s ‘Nightcap’ podcast and immediately doubled down on his claim that hes out-rapping Nas right now. Shannon wasnt having it, stepping up to defend Nas. But Jim was ready for this argument as he accused Shannon of purposely capping.” Jim added that despite his controversial comments, he was still a bigger Nas fan than the former NFL star.
Im going to sing more Nas records than you! Jim told Shannon, then turned to Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson, saying, He dont even know about rap, hes just doing it for the views to get Jim Jones on here and get him hot.
That remark lit a fire under Shannon! He took Jims get him hot jab as shade, thinking Jim meant his platform needed the boost. Get him hot? You better check the podcast space, Shannon snapped, seemingly flexing his podcast credits. This the biggest podcast you EVER been on! When Jim tried to switch up the topic and asked Shannon to name one Nas track, Unc wasnt letting it slide.
Jim stayed cool, telling Shannon he was clearly in his feels. But Unc kept the pressure on, saying Jim aint even on Nas level to get an invite to ‘Club Shay Shay.’ You not there yet, bro, slow down, Shannon said, adding, You might outrun me, but you cant out talk me!
Before the episode wrapped, Shannon made sure to clear the air and be honest with Jim. He let the rapper know that their debate over Nas wasnt that deep before giving the New York emcee props for his legacy. We had a blast going back and forth about Nas, Jadakiss, and you, Shannon said.
But, bruh, you stand the test of time, you do what you do, youre great at what you do, and I appreciate you taking the time out of your busy schedule tonight to come on with Ocho and I and talk about all things. I had a great time.
Ochocinco co-signed, calling their spicy exchange iconic, which got Shannon chuckling. By the end, the energy had shifted to nothing but love, proving they could throw jabs and still dap it up.
So, heres how the Jim Jones vs. Nas debate started. Jimmy hopped on Fat Joe and Jadakiss ‘Joe and Jada’ podcast earlier this month. During their chat, Jim said hes got a better catalog and more Billboard entries than Nas.The Dipset MC was responding to a viral clip from a 22-year-old fan, who swore Jims influence and chart success trump Nas legacy. And Jim was leaning all the way into it, telling the world to pull up Nas Billboard entries, then pull up mine!
He then doubled down, saying, My son cant name one Nas record, pointing to a generational gap where he feels his music connects more with the youth. He gave props to Nas as an idol from his high school days, admitting he was a superior Nas fan back in the 90s, but added, Your idols become rivals. While Jim insisted hes not throwing shade, hes hyping up his own gold and platinum records, claiming hes been spanking the game with or without Dipset.
