Simone Biles Broke Her Tie With Alfred Jochim While Securing An Age-Based Record

The development came on Sunday (Aug. 27) after Simone came out on top with a combined score of 118.450 — less than four points ahead of Shilese Jones, who placed second, per The Washington Post.

Through this significant win, Simone Biles broke her tie with Alfred Jochim, who secured his 7th American gymnastics title way back in 1933, according to TODAY. As a result, Biles has officially made history as the U.S. gymnast with the most all-around national titles.

It’s also important to note that, as Simone won the U.S. Gymnastics Championships at the age of 26, she became the oldest woman to come out on top in the competition, per CNN.

The Athlete Says Her History-Making Win Feels “Amazing” & “Special”

As The Shade Room reported, Simone Biles recently returned from a two-year hiatus and proved that she’s still the GOAT.

Earlier this month, Biles reigned supreme at the 2023 U.S. Classic, as she placed first in the all-around, balance beam, vault, and floor routine categories.

Following her history-making win that soon followed at the 2023 U.S. Gymnastics Championships, the athlete told NBC that the accomplishment “feels really special.” She also suggested that eight just might be her “lucky number.”

“I’ve been doing it for so long, I feel like I don’t think about numbers, I think about my performance. And I think, overall, I hit eight for eight. I guess it’s a lucky number this year.”

She also acknowledged how invigorating it felt to be cheered on and receive so much support, and she remarked that she needs to “start believing in [her]self a little bit more.”

“It’s really amazing. Everybody in here believes in me. So I just need to start believing in myself a little bit more, but it feels amazing and I love the fans, I love the crowd. It was really special.”
