Social Media Reacts To Lana Del Rey Name Dropping Other Artists As She Denies ‘Glamorizing Abuse’ In Her MusicĀ

Early Thursday, singer Lana Del Rey released a statement where she asked “the culture” when would she be able to go back to singing songs about love even if the relationship is not perfect.

Before getting into the past criticism she has received for her music, she named dropped a few artists that have gone number one with songs about being “sexy, wearing no clothes, cheating, f*cking,” amongst other topics. Some of the artists she named to give an example included Doja Cat, Ariana Grande, Kehlani, Nicki Minaj, and even BeyoncĆ©.

Lana then continued to say, “Can I please going back to singing about being embodied feeling beautiful by being in love if the relationship is not perfect or dancing for money- or whatever I want- without being crucified or saying that I’m glamorizing abuse?”

Expressing her frustration, she called out female writers and alt singers. “I’m fed up with female writers and alt singers saying that I glamorize abuse when in reality I’m just a glamorous person singing about the realities of what we are all now seeing are very prevalent emotionally abusive relationships all over the world,” said Lana.

It didn’t take too long before she started to trend on social media for her comments. There were some people who understood her point, while others thought she could have made her point without mentioning any of the other female artists that have topped the charts.

One person said, “Lana couldā€™ve made her point without name dropping the successful women she did. She did not have to compare her music to theirs. Letā€™s be real here, every artist she named gets mad backlash for the music they make. Lanaā€™s whole post just seemed really bitter and ignorant to me.”

Another person said, “Lana did nothing wrong. Valid Points She didnā€™t tear anyone down read her post properly.”
