Now we already know the Knowles family is no strangers when it comes to breaking barriers, and Solange Knowles is no different as she adds yet another accomplishment to her resume.
On Tuesday, Solange shared her excitement as she celebrated her accomplishment of composing an original score for the New York City Ballet. She shared that the show, which could be seen at Lincoln Center, will be shown in October, as well as next year in May.
According to NBC News, Solo’s composition, which is for the Fall Fashion Gala, makes her the first Black woman to compose a score for the production. The production, which is also celebrating its 10th anniversary will also honor actress Sarah Jessica Parker, who serves as the ballet’s vice chair.
Solange’s mother, Tina Lawson, also shared how proud she is of her youngest daughter, and said,
“She is always kicking down doors and opening doors for other artists of Color! Doing Performance Art in the most prestigious Museums like The Guggenheim, Moca, The Getty, Venice Bienalle, and The Elbphilharmonie Hamburg Germany. The prestigious Chinati Foundation in Marfa Texas Art Festival. Several installations In Museums in Europe. Now she has written and composed the most beautiful musical Piece for the New York Ballet.”
