Solange Reveals Why She Felt Compelled to Feature Master P On ‘A Seat At The Table’

Solange chopped it up with Questlove yesterday on his Pandora radio show Questlove Supreme where she revealed why she just had to involve Master P on #ASeatAtTheTable. “I think Master P is incredibly regal, and there was a thread of regality I wanted to connect to the album and the visuals,” she told the Questlove Supreme hosts. “I really wanted to present black people as, you know, [the] regal, stately beings that we are. I think that regality that can be expressed in so many different ways.”

Solo’s admiration for Master P goes much deeper than this, though. She recalls her father looking up to the rapper for paving the way for independent artists. “I also remember my father really looking up to Master P, because he was a black man who entered this music industry and this landscape completely independent, and he held onto his independence, and that was important for my father who was someone who was transitioning as someone who was a music executive and learning the business,” she said. “He had a great deal of respect for Master P and I would hear about that. I see a lot of similarities between my father and him, the empowerment of being a self-made black man and navigating through that.”

I dot know about y’all, but I got my life listening to Master P drop those gems on ASATT. If you listen closely, he’s telling you exactly how to be a successful artist, but his message is universal: You CAN be successful all by your darn self. Let his stories inspire you!
